THE IMPORTANCE OF EATING GENUINE HALAL TAYYIB MEAT AND FOODS
IN RAMADAN
A BRIEF FOR THE IMAMS OF THE MOSQUES/UK TO READ AT COMING FRIDAY PRAYER
In the Name of ALLAH,the most Compassionate the most Merciful
“O YOU PEOPLE ! EAT OF WHAT IS HALAL(lawful) AND TAYYIB(pure/natural) ON THE EARTH,AND DO NOT FOLLOW SATAN’s FOOTSTEPS,VERILY HE IS TO YOU AN OPEN ENEMY !”
(Surah 2(Al baqarah),verse 168)*Islam is a whole way of life and we have all Islamic details on foods:Halal meat and Halal foods,Haram foods and drinks,how to eat and when to eat etc……?
*For genuine Halal meat/poultry: Our teacher and model,Sayyidna Muhammad(peace be upon him) has told us and has shown us :how to do Dhabh/Zabh(animal slaughter) and he warned us in a Hadith in case one deviate from his humane Prophetic method,as in the use today of many stunning/torture techniques(electric shock for sheeps,electric water bath for poultry and Captive bolt pistol for cows) which are adopted widely by the non Muslims in the UK/Europe and unfortunately by most Muslim/non Muslim companies who supply most so called Halal meat/poultry to most Halal shops and Muslim restaurants?
Although the law in Britain allows Muslims(& Jews) to slaughter their animals according to their religion/Prophetic method and without the use of any stunning technique.?
New Medical scientific knowledge onthe effects of stunning on the animal have shown many HARAM OUTCOMES, apart from inflicting pain and cruelty on the animal:
Some animals die from stunning like the poultry(33%)….this is MITAH and is Haram to eat even when the throat was cut after.
There is less bleeding out after stunning and some blood stays inside the meat itself.
Blood is harmful to health and Haram to consume.
Stunning the cow has been found to spread Mad cow disease(BSE) too….
The Official Muslim view in the UK:
Halal meat/poultry is only in the Prophetic method of Dhabh and without the use of any stunning before Dhabh or mechanical slaughter.
ALL MUSLIM BELIEVERS SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT THE MEAT/ CHICKEN THEY ARE EATING ARE NOT COMING FROM STUNNED ANIMALS, AND THAT THEY ARE GENUINE HALAL MEAT SLAUGHTERED ACCORDING TO THE PROPHETIC METHOD OF DHABH(direct method with Tasmiah on each animal),ESPECIALLY IN THIS HOLY MONTH OF RAMADAN.
IT IS A DUTY ON EVERY ONE OF US to make sure of Halal!Unfortunately it was found in many reports/studies that in about 90% of the meat/poultry in halal shops and restaurants,the animals were stunned before:NOT GENUINE HALAL AND MANY MIGHT CONTAIN MUHARRAMAT!
Another order in the Qur’an is to eat also only: TAYYIB MEAT/FOODS AND DRINKS.
Unfortunately , most of the meat/poultry we eat today is not Tayyib?
The animal body, in most cases, is full of: antibiotics,hormones,harmful chemicals from vaccines, fed:GM diet , unnatural diet or animal protein?Also most FOODS today is not Tayyib!
As it is not natural or wholesome , is full of chemicals and additives,processed and is considered as junk foods and is very unhealthy!*For Halal foods and drinks:
We are aware today of many HARAM ingredients in many foods and drinks on the market (bread,biscuit,icecream etc…) like:
Gelatin or fat from pork,alcohol etc…Besides,many foods items contain many HARAM ADDITIVES/E NUMBERS(Emulsifiers,colouring…) like:E 120,E 140,E 471,E 472…..
Every Muslim believer should CHECK AND DOUBLE CHECK AND READ THE INGREDIENTS WRITTEN ON EVERY FOOD/DRINK ITEM
IN THE SUPERMARKET BEFORE BUYING IT!Vegeterian food(without any animal protein), can be eaten but only after making sure that they contain no alcohol and does not contain any Haram harmful additives or GM ingredients..
Finally,let us all remember these worrying facts in case any one eat any haram meat or food or drink:
*Du’as will not be accepted
*Ibadat/Salat will not be accepted for 40 days
*The Muslim will not enter Jannah/Heaven .We have to remember here the parent’s big responsibility in avoiding the feeding of their young developping children any Haram food item,especially, as their bodies and organs are developping from the foods they eat?

• Muslim Council launches new halal food lobby
• Will defend halal slaughter methods
All halal foods (those permitted under Islamic dietary guidelines) will now be regulated by a new overarching body, the UK Halal Commission.
Launched on Saturday, 2nd June 2012 at a special gathering of imams, scholars and health and food industry associations, the UK Halal Commission will act as the UK’s premier halal organisation, defending the halal industry from recent attacks and lobbying media and government.
False charges
At the Muslim Council (MCB)-sponsored event at Birmingham Central Mosque, the meeting signed a historic communiqué, the ‘Birmingham Declaration’.
The Declaration underlined concern at attempts by pressure groups to change the law, potentially removing the exemption which allows religious communities such as Jews and Muslims to slaughter animals without stunning. The Declaration affirmed the Muslim community’s resolve to resist these attempts and to campaign against them.
The document went on to declare that criticism of religious slaughter – that it causes more pain – is false. It said that no other method of slaughter was more humane than halal, provided proper standards were maintained.
In addition to vigorously campaigning against any change to the current definition of religious slaughter, the new Commission will develop an ‘assurance scheme’ to ensure strict adherence to animal welfare and other halal standards. It will also address wider issues relating to training, education, food ingredients, and pharmaceuticals.
Lobbying
The meeting was addressed by Farooq Murad, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, Dr Mohammed Naseem, Chairman Birmingham Central Mosque, Dr Ahmad Makhdoom, Director World Muslim League, Dr A Majid Katme,Spokesman Islamic Medical Association, Haji Akram, Association of Non-stun Abattoirs, Mawlana Yunus Dudhwala, Halal Monitoring Committee, Rafiq Sehgal, Bradford Council for Mosques, Mawlana Israr Hussain Kazmi, Hussainia Mosque, Birmingham and representatives of other organisations.
Speakers at the Commission launch discussed creating an extensive awareness campaign, starting with the Muslim community itself: the Friday mosque sermon (Khutba) will be used to encourage demand by Muslim consumers for ‘un-stunned’ chicken and meat.
MCB’s deputy secretary general Dr Shuja Shafi said, “Consumers of halal food need to be confident that their food is prepared to high standards of safety, animal welfare and environmental protection. Schemes such as Red Tractor Assurance, intended to maintain, develop and promote standards throughout the whole food industry do not permit ‘halal’ food operators to participate in the scheme on grounds that the meat is slaughtered by the (permissible and legal) religious method. This is despite the assertion in their promotional material ‘whatever your business, find out what Red Tractor can do for you’. The UK Halal Commission will work to develop a credible Assurance Scheme for halal food and in other sectors.”
The UK Halal Commission will now invite representatives from all segments of the British Muslim community to put forward representations to the body. Convenor of the Birmingham meeting, the MCB’s deputy secretary general Dr. Shuja Shafi, will act as interim chairman to help put in place a proper governance structure.”

ANIMALS IN ISLAM AND THEIR RIGHTS
ANIMAL CARE AND WELFARE IN ISLAMIn Islam we are taught that…
-God Almighty has created/ made, mankind, animals and all the universe.
-Man is the Vicegerent of GOD/khalifah and is placed in charge of all the creatures like animals
-This status gives man a great responsibility/accountability and he should be caring for what
is placed under his control.– Man was created directly from dust/sand,Animals were created separately,
This means that:
Darwin Theory is a theory/a myth and is not correct!
Evolution of man from animals is not a true fact and is not accepted in Islam
But some “evolution” did occurs in the same species: in both:man and animals.
Muslims believe in the unique separate creation of each species.– Each animal should be treated with gentlness and respect,love and care.(RIFQ)
-The Holy Book: AL QUR’AN and the Sayings/AHADITH and the behaviour of the final prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) contain a lot of details on ANIMALS and how to treat them?
– Several chapters in the Holy Book AL QUR’AN are named/titled after the animals or some insects,for example: the COW(biggest chapter),The Cattle,The Ant,The Bees,The Spider, The Elephant … and many other animals which were mentioned include :sheep, goat, camel, horse, donkey, fish, birds,frog,monkey,whale and so on..
-Every kind of animal is a COMMUNITY like us,according to the Qur’an.
(“THERE IS NO ANIMAL ON EARTH,NOR BIRD WHICH FLIES ON WINGS,BUT THEY ARE
COMMUNITIES LIKE YOU!
WE HAVE NEGLECTED NOTHING IN THE BOOK,THEN TO THEIR LORD THEY WILL BE GATHERED!”) Chapter 6/verse 38COMMUNITY means that each kind of animal(& insect), has its own unique way of eating, sleeping, reproduction, language, recreation, social life, feelings, needs (culture
and habits…) which should be studied, respected ,protected then fully facilitated!
(Communities of :horse,sheep,cow,birds,whale,seal,monkey,dog,fish,chicken,bear,donkey,spider,bees,
elephant,cat,butterfly etc….)-Every animal praises God the Creator…!(each has his/her own way of serving
and praising God(prayer)..but we do not understand it,as mentioned in the
QUR’AN).-Animals have got souls.
-Animals will be raised on the Day of Judgment, man will be questioned by
God, if he/she has mistreated any animal in their life and justice will be
given to every animal and punishment for the wrong doer…!-Many animals go to Heaven!
-In Islam, Muslims are ordered to give each animal:
his/her RIGHTS:
-natural food(no animal protein to the vegeterian animals which we do eat,no Genetically modified food…) and to protect them from any filthy harmful food/chemicals…
-water( natural/safe)
– natural conception/pregnancy,offsprings ,motherhood and breast feeding
-security/shelter and safety and protection from wild carniverous animals
-protection from cold/rain/drought…
-To be used for what GOD has created it( its natural function):for example not to ride a cow.. but ride a horse.
-to be treated when affected by any illness.(vet)
-to live among its own community/society.
-freedom to some extent: access to sun air space and opportunity for: flying jumping and playing(recreation).
-Healthy living:no bad unnatural diet,no hormones and antibiotics no dangerous chemicals.
-right for its “complaint and be heard”!
-right to have justice especially on the Day of Judgment
-right for a gentle humane care and welfare.THE 5 FREEDOMS OF THE FARM ANIMAL WELFARE COUNCIL ARE GRANTED AND GUARANTEED TO EVERY ANIMAL IN ISLAM:
Freedom from hunger and thirst,freedom from discomfort,freedom from pain injury and disease,freedom to express normal behaviour,freedom from fear and distress
(these RIGHTS and Freedoms, are based on some verses in the Holy BOOK AL QUR’AN and some AHADITH/Sayings and stories which occured with the prophet Muhammad,peace be upon him/see later)(also if you look and search the internet,you will find :
Under ANIMAL CARE AND WELFARE IN ISLAM: 1,090,000 sites/studies
Under ANIMAL RIGHTS IN ISLAM : 4,610,000 sites/studies .
This is true mainly in domestic animals and the animals which we are allowed to
eat and consume.(but other wild animals to be protected in their own communities)-Any cruelty/harsh treatment or infliction of pain to any animal is forbidden in Islam and is a SIN and is punishable,as in fox hunting, bull fighting, cock fighting, factory farming, caging/imprisoning, painful unnecessary vivisection/ most animal experiments, cloning,stunning before slaughter, hitting, deprivation from food or water, carrying heavy weight, misuse and abuse(e.g use as target to hit/shoot at),branding , docking of dogs tails, maternal deprivation, the cruel seal hunting,exposure to cold/rain/hot weather…etc
-Keeping every kind of animal alive / protection of the species, is recommended in Islam, as done in Noah’s Ark before!(Preservationof the species).
-A person can go to Heaven/Paradise even for just providing food/drink to a
needy animal!A person can go to Hell just because of cruelty or food deprivation to an animal ! (as stated by the prophet Muhammad,peace be upon him).
-There is a reward in offering food or water to any animal,as the prophet said!
-The prophet MUHAMMAD(peace be upon him)/the teacher: here is some STORIES in brief from his life:
* Was angry one day when he discovered a mother bird distressed
and agitated because someone had taken her babies and he said: “who has distressed
this mother by taking her babies! give her back her babies..!”
*Was angry when a cat was locked inside the house and died from starvation?
He said the owner is in hell!
*Defended a weak camel who was suffering and in tears and complaining … he told the owner:fear Allah with this animal..do not make him hungry or suffer..!
*Cursed who use the animal as a target to shoot at.
*Prohibited the hitting of the animal especially on the face!
*Prohibited to provoke fight between animals,as in cock fighting.
*Opposed the use the animal for different function,like riding the cow…
*Opposed the harsh cruel pulling of a sheep from the ears..
* Treated a sick dog…
*Opened the door for a cat,who was scratching it, while he was in prayer..
*Opposed the burning of a colony of aunts..(burning any animal or man are forbidden)
*Changed the direction of the army one day to a different road ,when he saw on his way a dog in labour/ giving birth , and tried to avoid disturbing her…!
* Gave many Sayings/Ahadith ,ordering us to treat each animal gently,with utmost care and welfare…as the way to Heaven..!We should not forget also that the prophet Muhammad himself was a shepherd and he looked very well after the sheeps..with best care and welfare(organic natural farming);
etc……etc…..-The Khalifah (president) Omar Bin Khattab, used to say:
” I will be worried if I will be punished on the Day of Judgment when the animals complain to GOD that they could not walk properly on the roads during their lives
because Khalifah Omar did not fix/smooth the road for them!”-In early Islam:A charitable trust (WAQF) was established in order to look after
animals,especially those homeless, injured or disabled animals…!-Abu Hourayrah one of the most famous companions of the prophet
Muhammad(peace be upon him) and narrators of Hadith/prophet’s sayings,used to look after kitten/hourayrah..this is why he was called Abu Hourayrah(the father of kittens).-Treating a sick animal is a duty on every muslim and is highly rewarded!
– Killing an animal for food, should be done quickly, painlessly and
without any suffering ( as it happens in Religious slaughter, without
the use of any stunning )/please see separate scientific religious articles on stunning.
It is an order by the prophet Muhammad,when someone is killing an animal(domestic/wild),to do it PAINLESSLY and without causing any pain or torture to the animal before final death..-pork/porcine substance and carniverous animals are prohibited to eat.
-Cats can be kept inside the house as a domestic pet,but not dogs…as they are NAJIS/unclean,cause some diseases,bites and injuries and deaths,noise/complaints/court cases and many other marietal/family problems.
However a person can go to Heaven for providing water to a thirsty deprived dog…according to the prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him)….( ALL THESE ARE THE BELIEFS OF 1400 MILLION MUSLIMS IN THE WORLD!)
Now there is a great need to establish here in the UK/ West :
Islamic organisations for animal care and welfare and Islamic animal rights organisations which are based on the rich sources of the Holy Islamic Scriptures:Because: many Muslims/and most non Muslims, do not know or are not aware of the fascinating Rights and the welfare of the animals in Islam …and because animals today are suffering a lot of CRUELTY and ABUSE in our society!
British muslims(about two million), should join also the many animal welfare organisations who are campaigning sincerely for the welfare and care of the animals,and should join in many of their campaigns and activities like:
The Royal Society for the Protection of Animals(RSPCA)
Farm Animal Welfare Council
Compassion in world farming
International fund for Animal welfare

– This is the Official Muslim view of the Muslims in Britain :
The only Halal is the prophet’s Muhammad way(Sallalahu Alayhi wasallam),direct method and without the use of any type of stunning.HALAL IS THE UNSTUNNED ONE ONLY!
This is the view of over 700 Muslim organisations and mosques and Imams in Britain:
Muslim Council of Britain(over 400 organisations/mosques),UMO(over 200 organisations/mosques)
Regent Park mosque,Sharia Council,Darul Uloom,,European Council for Ifta and Reasearch,many Muftis…,Islamic Medical Association etc…Muslims in Britain are lucky to have a law/Exemption from stunning,as well as the Jews,who oppose strongly ,more than the Muslims ,all types of stunning( for Kosher meat.),and to slaughter our Zabiha according to the clearway of our beloved prophet Muhammad,peace be upon him..
We have now a big list of FATAWAS which prohibit completely any type of stunning!
The more we explain to Ulamas/Imams what stunning does to the animal/meat,the more we get Fatawas of prohibition.(EDUCATION ON STUNNING AND ITS HARAM HARMFUL EFFECTS IS VERY MUCH NEEDED TODAY TO ALL ULAMAS/MUFTIS EVERYWHERE AND IN MANY LANGUAGES)Many scientific/medical researches and my medical researches before have prooved that stunning techniques( which are torture techniques) can causes all or some of these haram results and problems:
-Stunning causes Death of some animals before Zabiha(Mitah) which makes the meat HARAM.
The Government says that 1/3 of stunned chickens are dead before you do the cut for slaughter???
Chicken are cruelly stunned in electric water bath! some die from strangulation(Munkhanicah)
which is HARAM to do!Meat from dead animal before Dhabh,blood , strangulation and blow on the head (all occuring in stunning), are clearly prohibited in the final Holy Book ALQUR’AN(chapter 5 verse 3)
-And causes more blood inside the meat…making the meat Haram to eat as blood(Dam) is haram to consume and a big health hazard!More blood stays inside as the heart stops or gets weak..and also by the ruptiure of the small blood vessels inside the meat..”SALT AND PEPPER HAEMORRHAGE”..?
(so far we have three big Haram mentioned in the Qur’an: mitah(dead) and damm(blood) and strangulation (Munkhanicah) .. especially with chickens…)– Is Cruel and painful to the animal ,as prooved by EEG medical studies,and any cruelty to any animal is forbidden in Islam .every person who causes any pain or suffering to an animal will be punished on the Day of Judgement,according to Hadith.
-So it is SINFUL too..and any one accepting/doing it will be punished!
-Makes the composition of the meat: unhealthy and not TAYYIB,according to the medical researches due to the disruption/disturbance of the natural safe healthy chemical formula/ingredients of the meat!
Animals should be fed their own NATURAL DIET(Grass and plants) ,no animal protein also no GM diet..!
Organic Natural farming for poultry and animals is a MUST in Islam!
Hormones and antibiotics to be avoided too for our health and for the health of the animals too.
-TAZKIAH is a MUST in the Qur’an in order to purify the meat…Direct method/prophet Muhammad’s way and without any type of stunnin!-New scientific medical researches have prooved the importance of having a conscious hearing animal (unstunned) in order to hear Tasmiah/Name of ALLAH, at time of Zabiha ,as it acts as a “sedative”/TRANQUILLISER and a purifiyer of the meat from blood and germs(healthy)!
-Is a health risk! a cause for BSE/MAD COW disease(in beef)..this is why the US has PROHIBITED lately stunning for the cows.Britain should follow soon..!also in stunning more blood stays inside to be consumed which is very dangerous to health.
-More important the prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) has said in a Hadith that “he will fight all those who do not slaughter the animal/Zabiha,as he does”(without any stunning) ?????
Who would like to be at WAR with the prophet muhammad(pbuh)?
-To use any type of stunning,is a DEVIATION from the clearly prescribed way of doing Zabiha as the prophet did like a (BID’A)?
The prophet Muhammad was and is our MODEL and TEACHER and he showed us how to do Zabiha and he prescribed clearly in a Hadith how to do it?-Least to say: in Islam we are asked,according to the Hadith of the prophet,to avoid any thing doubtful or contraversial(Shubuha)?…so for our sake we should avoid eating the meat of any stunned animal completely!
-Keeping the Islamic identity in eating meat and in Zabiha is a MUST in Islam..!
One can not eat the same meat coming from slaughter as done by the non Muslims!
To stun the animal is like Zabiha of non Muslims!
-The Prophet warned us that No Du’a will be accepted from any one who ate some HARAM meat/food!…and to watch our big responsibility/accountability if we feed our innocent children some haram meat or food as their bodies will be built from the Haram meat/food!-Finally,the Muslims will suffer a great economic loss if they stun the animals like the non Muslims… as people will start buying from the non Muslims whose meat also looks cleaner and more attractive to buy!
-On top of all that,the prophetic method of Zabiha(direct method/without any type of stunning)
is LEGAL in Britain for the Muslims to do it and is allowed in the slaughterhouses..
This allowance was renewed by the Government in March/2005.
So why many Muslims follow the non Muslims in their wrong and haram way(stunning), which is different from the prophet’s Muhammad way..It must be IGNORANCE or THE WORSHIPPING OF THE POUNDS AND DOLLARS….
It is frustrating and amazing to see the Jews stick to the direct method in Zabiha and without any type of stunning(Moses method/Muhammad method) while many muslims go” BLIND” and incist in following the non Muslim way(stunning) ????
No doubt they are SINFUL and will have no BARAKAH in their business…..
THE DIRECT METHOD OF ZABIHA(without any stunning) IS THE ONLY METHOD FOR REAL HALAL MEAT…THE ONLY HUMANE METHOD WHICH WAS PRESCRIBED BY GOD ALMIGHTY AND IMPLEMENTED BY ALL THE PROPHETS OF GOD:Abraham,Moses,Jesus and Muhammad,peace be upon them…
